About the Composer
Timothy Max is composer of sacred and modern music who frequently writes for the mediums of choir, orchestra, organ, and piano, and is know for his arrangements of LDS hymns.
As a young musician, he spent countless hours refining his skills as a pianist and composer, and developing a love of film and church music. Tim began composing professionally in 2001 when he was asked by the Utah Theatre & Arts Company to score the musical This Castle Needs a Good Scouring, a full-length musical that parodies the Cinderella story. |
In 2002, Tim attended Salt Lake Community College and worked towards his AS degree in music. While there, he served as the SLCC Choir President, frequently writing, conducting, traveling, and performing with the award-winning school ensembles. In 2004, after traveling to China with SLCC's jazz choir, Tim received an invitation to return to China to teach English. For nearly a year, he taught college-level English in rural Huaibei, China, to over 200 college students.
After graduating with his Associate's degree, Tim completed his BA in music at Brigham Young University-Hawaii, studying with Dr. Daniel Bradshaw, composer. At BYU-Hawaii, Tim performed regularly for concerts and devotionals, and participated in several of BYU-Hawaii's ensembles. In 2007 Tim toured China and Mongolia where the BYU-Hawaii Concert Choir debuted his original choral works.
In 2012, Tim moved to Texas. He has been employed as a Music Department Assistant at Lone Star College-Kingwood, Executive Assistant for the Lake Houston Musical Arts Society, and Executive Director for the Houston Masterworks Chorus.
In 2018, two of Tim's pieces received awards from the LDS Church Music Competition and were performed and recorded at temple square.
Tim now resides in Houston, TX, where he works as a full-time piano teacher.
